SNP MEP Ian Hudghton today met with Highland Council leader Cllr. Drew Hendry and representatives from both Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the University of the Highlands and Islands, to discuss European issues of importance to the region.

Of debate were matters of ongoing reforms in the Common Fisheries Policy and Common Agriculture Policy, as well as discussions on Regional Development and Social Fund Programmes. Commenting following the meeting Ian Hudghton MEP said, “This was a productive meeting and a good opportunity to discuss ongoing issues in European programmes and initiatives that could potentially affect the Highlands and Islands.  Of particular interest currently is the issue of EU Structural Funds and we discussed how best to make sure the Highlands and Islands get the best possible deal from Europe, in particular by lobbying for an agreement on Transitional Status in the new funding programmes.”
