Ian Hudghton (Greens/EFA) − The UK and Ireland have the choice to opt in to individual measures proposed in terms of an EU-wide approach to criminal law, and I understand that the Scottish government plays a full role in deciding when it is appropriate to do so. Nevertheless, I consider that certain aspects of the de Jong report would serve to undermine long-standing principles of Scottish criminal law. Accordingly I abstained on the final vote.
